Diamond Rose Shears
Diamond Rose Shears® was founded in 2003 by WL & Coleen Laney. From the very beginning their goal was to provide the very best products and services for the professional hair stylist. Focusing on the hair styling or hair cutting shears as they are sometimes called, the Laney’s searched worldwide for the best product. After many months of testing samples and sorting through the myths and misunderstandings of what comprises a quality shear three manufacturing facilities were selected.
With the help of a master Japanese sharpener who owned one of the scissors manufacturing facilities in Tokyo, Japan, the name Musashi was selected for our fine Japanese style shears. (The Japanese style shear was selected because it best suits today’s professional hair stylist. The German style shear is not well suited for the very popular "slide cutting" techniques used by most professional stylists.)
Today, there are three series of the Musashi Shears®. The most expensive and best quality is the Damascus by Musashi which leads our "Diamond Series". The balance of the Diamond Series features the finest quality steel, craftsmanship and value for the dollar of any brand shear on the market today. Manufactured exclusively for Musashi Shears ® by a Japanese family owned and operated company steeped in the tradition of fine hair styling shear production. (Some models are manufactured to our standards in Korea with Japanese steel.)
Our most popular series is the Rose Series. The Rose Series is manufactured to our exacting standards in the Japanese style hair styling shear with some of the finest stainless steel available. Our scissors craftsmen take personal pride in the final product which by the way is one of the reasons we can offer a lifetime warranty against factory defect on all our shears. In addition to the stringent factory quality control, our distributors do a final inspection of each shear to assure our customers of the very best value.
The Rose Series has many styles and lengths in both right and left handed styling shears and texturizing shears. The Rose Series features the counter sunk tension control that gives precision tension control and a sleek design which does not allow hair to get caught in the mechanism as it can in the more common "finger thumb" tension control found on many less expensive shears. This series also features a screw in bumper which is less likely to fall out than the more common "plug-in" bumper found on less expensive scissors.
We also have an exciting Classy Shears Series of colored shears. This group of shears has a high quality steel built into the shears before being sent for color and pattern etching. The net result is a quality shear designed to expose your artistic side.
Rounding out our Musashi Shear line is the Rose Petal series. The Rose Petal series is our least expensive shear. It has the same quality of steel and craftsmanship as the Rose series, but has the more traditional "finger thumb" tension adjustment mechanism. Our goal was to provide a quality shear for an affordable price. When you try one of these select shears, we are sure you will agree the mission was accomplished.

The Diamond Rose Superior Sharpening System
The service side of our business has an exciting history. Sharpening shears is a critical service needed by all professional hair stylists. A good quality hairstyling shear is able to do approximately 700 hair cuts before it needs to be sharpened. In actual usage that number can be significantly less.
There are a number of issues and circumstances that will cause the shears to need servicing sooner. Among the things that will cause your scissor to get dull faster are:
- coarse hair
- dirty hair
- chemically treated hair such as color, perms
- pool chlorine
Other factors are poor care:
- Dropping your shears
- not cleaning them routinely
- using them when they have been nicked from dropping
- tossing them in a drawer to be banged around with other scissors, clips, curling irons and etc.
When we first began the company, our goal was to find the best sharpening system and buy it wholesale for all our Diamond Rose Distributors. Big problem! We could not find a sharpening system that would restore the Japanese style shear to factory new cutting condition.

Matching the Convex edge and the 800 Millimeter Radius
The issue was the compound angles required to restore the shear. Some systems could do the convex edge, but destroyed the 800 millimeter radius. One sharpening machine we found would kind of match the radius (it was a one size fits all radius) but it could not do a true convex edge nor could it do left handed shears.
The most common sharpening machine was a grinder that destroyed the convex edge and made no provision for the 800 millimeter radius whatsoever. This left the sharpener with equipment that at best was mostly dependent on the skill of the operator. (This is why we have seen so many problems in the field with scissors sharpened with inconsistent and totally wrong angles and straightened radius's.)
You have heard the saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention." It was certainly true for Diamond Rose Shears®. Mr. Laney in conjunction with an engineering firm designed the Diamond Rose Superior Sharpening System. The machine takes all the guess work out of the sharpening process. The clamp guide assembly can be set for any length shear blade. The radius is centered, the proper cutting angle is set and the shear can be returned to factory new cutting condition.

Patent Protection
The United States Patent office issued patent number "US 7,118,466 B2" for this amazing sharpening machine on October 10, 2006. Looking back today it seems like it was so easy, but really it was 2.5 years of research and development, and then 7 months of testing before our first distributors were recruited. All of that was preceded by a lifetime of experience that allowed Mr. Laney to make it look "easy".
WL Laney, co-founder of Diamond Rose Shears®, LLC first learned how to sharpen scissors from an elderly gentleman in Tucson, Arizona about forty years ago. At that time WL was traveling as an evangelist for his church. Sharpening scissors was a wonderful way to supplement his income and pay all his travel expenses. Later Mr. Laney retired from church ministry and entered the secular business world. He has written several business sales training manuals, and conducted business training and motivational seminars. His book, "How to be Boss in a Hurry" was published by Bobbs Merrill Publishing company in 1982. Some of the businesses owned and operated by WL and his wife Coleen included: A Century 21 real estate office, an Interstate Business Brokers business brokerage, a group of 24 Fantastic Sam’s hair salons, Winthrop Capital, a business consulting, merger and acquisition company and now Diamond Rose Shears®, LLC.
